Membership of ZIMTA is open to all teachers and officers in the Ministries of Education irrespective of race, colour, and creed, academic and professional qualifications.

Full Membership
Full membership shall be open to:

1. Every registered teacher, certificated, licensed or authorised to teach;
2. All student teachers earning a salary for at least twelve consecutive months;
3. All lecturers in schools, colleges and universities in Zimbabwe.

Associate Membership
Associate membership shall be available to:

1. Every student on being accepted for entrance to a recognised teacher training institution within Zimbabwe, who shall pay no subscription except if affected by clause 3.1.1.2 of the constitution.
2. Retired teachers, teachers on secondment, and any others as take an active interest in education and are acceptable to the Association

Honorary Membership
Honorary membership may be conferred on any person who, in the opinion of the Executive has rendered outstanding service to cause of the Association or to education.
