The Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (ZIMTA) recently held its 39th Extraordinary National Conference in Harare where delegates elected a new National Executive which will hold office from 2023 to 2027.
The full list of the National Executive includes ZIMTA chief executive officer Dr Sifiso Ndlovu, while members of the Standing Committee are National President Akuneni Maphosa, National Deputy President William Nakayi Mfarinya, National Deputy President Elizabeth Mahiyana, National Secretary General Goodwill Taderera, while the National Treasurer is Wilson Mangena.
Other National Executive members are National Tertiary Educators Representative Evelyn Manyame, National Primary School Teachers Representative Lovejoy Mapatsa, National Secondary School Teachers Representative Petros Kawadza, and National Women Teachers Representative Juliet Chikomo.
Special Area Representatives are Primary School Teachers’ Representative Chishamiso Ndlovu, Secondary School Teachers’ Representative Musashame Manyau, National Advisory Council Representative Pritchard Bhebhe, National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) Kufakunesu Rupere, National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) Arthur Maphosa, and National Association of Schools Inspectors and Directors (NASID) Farai Chabayanzara.
Provincial representatives include Harare Metropolitan’s Tichaona Makata, Bulawayo Metropolitan is represented by Sehlile Thebe, Matabeleland South Hope Khumalo, Matabeleland North Remnant Ndlovu, Masvingo Engineer Vitalis, Manicaland Mutsigiri Hove, Mashonaland East Patience Madimutsa, Mashonaland West Nyota Taurayi, and Mashonaland Central Shadreck Mushure.
Taderera, in a circular, said the Extra-ordinary National Conference reviewed and ratified decisions and actions of the National Executive, received and approved reports, including audited financial statements, and elected National Officers of ZIMTA.
“Conference elected a fifteen (15) member executive which saw six (6) members of the previous Executive ascending to Chief Officers and had nine (9) new members rising from the lower structures of ZIMTA,” he said.
“The fifteen (15) members elected at Conference were joined by nine (9) Provincial Representatives with the exception of Midlands province whose leadership was affected by a disciplinary verdict. The elected officers were joined by three (3) representatives from ZIMTA’s Sub-Associations, NAPH, NASH, and NASID.
“The full complement of the elected executive for the period 2023 – 2027, a four (4) year term, has twenty-eight (28) strong[1]willed members. Join me in congratulating and wishing them the best of work ahead.”
Taderera said the election of the new National Executive capped the last action of re-organising ZIMTA structures. This journey was travelled from school representatives, branch, district, and provincial structures.
“Now that these structures are in place, ZIMTA activities will be organised at all the levels for membership education and training as informed by the strategic plan,” he said.
